Oribe incense sticks are made by the Koh Shi masters of the art of aroma on the Japanese island of Awaji in the tradition of craftsmanship. The Koh Shi have already made a name for themselves in the production of fine incense sticks since the 1850s. They are known worldwide for their special skills in achieving perfect harmony in the production of incense sticks. Continuous change in raw materials due to weather and growing conditions notwithstanding. Even today, Awaji incense sticks are synonymous with legendary quality standards. Other types of incense sticks usually have a supporting core of bamboo that provides smoke when lit. Awaji incense sticks are made entirely of incense material soaked in fragrance oil. This results in less smoke and allows the fragrance to fully develop.
